Consider this stone slab...

I come from a little village in the middle of Northern Karnataka. It is all but lost in a sea of forest and rivers, known only to those who live there and few others.

If it was ever important or well known, those times have long passed. Now it is pretty much just a right turn in a road, a curvy dirt track with ancient houses on one side and plantations of the other.

Soon it shall be gone.

There is a town nearby, the Taluka (a sub-division of a District) headquarters and every year the town creeps closer.

Once there were rings of rice fields around the village. Now there are newly created plots here and there with a few scattered houses coming up.

In time my village shall be a suburb, and then, possibly, just a section within a city.
